Congratulations are in order. This Morning's Sian Welby has announced she is expecting her first child with her fiancé Jake Beckett, so what do we know about the couple?

The rising star had just missed out on the full-time presenting This Morning job to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley – despite glowing viewer reaction and comparisons to Holly Willoughby. But the presenter has some big personal news in store as she revealed she is going to become a mum for the first time.

Welby dropped her baby bombshell while on air during her Capital Breakfast show. She said: "I've got a bit of an announcement for you – I'm pregnant! I don't know how I've managed to keep it from you for so long."

We take a look at her love story as the couple prepare to become parents for the first time after announcing their happy baby news.

Sian Welby's baby news

After breaking the news, Welby told listeners: "The lies, the deceit, the mocktails. I couldn't wait to tell you. This is a whole new journey for me and I want to take you all on it with me, and don't worry I'm not going anywhere! This is going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait to share it with you all."

Welby also took to social media to share sweet moments from her pregnancy so far including her bare baby bump and ultra scans. "We have some news," she wrote alongside a heart emoji.

Who is Sian Welby's fiancé Jake Beckett?

Welby and Beckett work for rival radio stations, but they have fallen madly in love with each other. They have a cheeky relationship and she playfully said they refuse to reveal which celebs they have starring on each of their radio stations that week.

All rivalries aside, they are each other's biggest supporters. They have similar work schedules and hours as Beckett is a producer on Heart's breakfast show starring Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden. Capital Radio and Heart Radio are based in the same Global HQ in central London.

Radio star Welby recently lifted the lid on how their lives fit in well with each other, telling The Sun's Fabulous magazine: "We’re both getting up at the crack of dawn and going to bed like old biddies, so we’re in sync!"

The couple have been in love for nearly four years after their friendship blossomed into something more during the 2020 lockdown. They had begun to text and chat on the phone lots, realising they had lots in common when it comes to favourite music and TV shows.

As the lockdown rules begun to ease, they would meet for socially distanced walks and Welby realised she fancied Beckett – even when it was freezing.

When did Sian Welby get engaged?

It was a complete surprise when Beckett popped the question to Welby in Greece last summer. It was the picture of romance when they got engaged on a scenic boat trip.

Of their engagement, she wrote: "On Tuesday I thought we were just going on a boat trip!! Genuinely didn’t see this coming. For once I am totally speechless. I didn’t think it mattered until he asked me, and then suddenly it meant everything. Love you Jakey. 15.8.23."

Sian Welby's This Morning stint

Welby was propelled into stardom when she was trialled on ITV's This Morning as they scouted for Willoughby's replacement. She admitted her nerves before doing her first show.

She said at the time: "I'm trying to be cool, calm and collected, but I'm hosting This Morning tomorrow! I can't believe this, I'm on the actual main show. I don't know who allowed this. Am I ready? Am I a liability? I'm not sure but thankfully I will be with Dermot who is a beacon of joy and an ultimate professional."

At the start of the show she told O'Leary: "This is so surreal. I was having a lot of stress dreams last night. Forgot my PE kit, didn't do my homework... I was like, 'What day is it tomorrow? Oh god, I've got to do it!" O'Leary said: "Welcome to Monday's This Morning - and a big hello and a fanfare, if you will, making her debut, it's Sian Welby! It's good to ahve you with us."
