In-shed-ible: An old hut in a beachside car park is on sale for £69,000

The astronomical price of beach huts in the UK has been well documented, with the most expensive huts going for upwards of £330K. Now, a similar sort of prestige also seems to apply to sheds in beachside car parks, after a 'lean-to' structure went on sale for an asking price of £69,000 in Teignmouth, Devon.

The sparse cabin, which has been owned by the same family for 90 years, can be found in Lower Point carpark, located just off Teignmouth's sandy river beach Back Beach.

Nearby is the pretty River Teign Estuary and harbour. The timber structure currently boasts mains power and lights, but no water.

You can get your hands on it by placing a bid in an online auction, taking place on July 23 - but you'll need 'shed' loads of cash.

For some, the shed's eye-watering asking price will seem like further evidence of a housing market gone mad - but while the interior of the shed looks in need of an update, budding business people could potentially use the freehold hut (with a total floor area of 13.6m squared) for some kind of commercial enterprise.

And when you consider that traditional beach huts in Teignmouth go for up to £200K, it's a veritable bargain.

James Carden, of Bradleys Estate Agent, which is marketing the shed, said: 'It's literally 10 yards from the beach - you walk out the door and you're on it."

"This blue hut has been with the family for 90 years and they've used it as their family summer beach hut," he added.

"These don't tend to come up very often and seem to stay in the families forever. When they do sell they tend to sell within the community."
