Girl, 10, breaks down as footballer says her emotional reaction at England game 'made his night'

A schoolgirl who captured the hearts of the nation after footballer Mason Mount gave her his t-shirt broke down again on live TV on Friday after receiving a special message from the England star.

Belle McNally, 10, was captured crying uncontrollably after Mount walked into the Wembley stands on Wednesday evening and handed her his jersey following the team's win over Denmark.

Footage of 10-year-old Belle crying into the shoulder of her father was shared to Facebook by another fan and has now been viewed more than two million times.

Having chatted to presenters on BBC Breakfast, Belle and her Dad Tom headed to the ITV studios in London from their home in Bromley, Kent, for a chat on the sofa with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

After retelling the story of her encounter with Mount, Belle was left in tears once again when the player sent a video message thanking her for her support. He then said that her reaction to the gift made his win all the more special.

Speaking to the camera, Mount said: "Belle, It's Mason here, I just wanted to do this message to you and say how special the reaction was after the game when I gave you my shirt."

The schoolgirl, an aspiring model and actress, grinned as her dad said: "Thank you so much Mason. You can’t put into words what he has done for her, such a nice man."

Belle, who went to her first England match last month when England played Croatia, believes Mount may have recognised her from when she and her dad saw the bus team on its way to Wembley for the Group D opener.

She said: "So when we went to the England vs Croatia game, we actually saw him on the Euros coach and he waved and smiled at me. So I think maybe he recognised me from there at the game."

She said she had no idea Mount was planning on handing her his shirt, and that she was "happy and shocked" as she realised he was heading towards her.

She added: "So when he walked towards me, in the moment I thought he was looking a different way.

But looking back he actually looked at me, so in the moment I didn’t think he was going to give it to me.

"It was so many different emotions as I said I didn’t expect it. So I was just happy, shocked, so may different emotions mixed and I just didn't know what to do – so I started hugging my dad and crying."
