Royal fans claim Prince William's new Instagram post bears very strong resemblance to Diana

This weekend, Prince William opened up about his mother Princess Diana in a speech where he recalled the heartbreaking moment he found out about her untimely death.

Now, in one of the Duke of Cambridge's latest posts on Instagram, royals fans can't but help remark on the resemblance between him and the late Princess of Wales, who passed away in 1997.

The father-of-three can be seen, in the image, wearing a helmet as he tries out sustainable motor racing.

Since being shared, the picture has received more than 190,000 'likes' – with dozens commenting on how he appeared to have inherited his mother's eyes.

One person wrote: "Much like Diana's eyes!"

Another shared: "The resemblance to Diana has never seemed as noticeable as in this photo. Wow!"

A third added: "Your mother’s beautiful eyes."

The comparisons between the pair follow the delayed fallout surrounding the princess' controversial 1995 Panorama interview – in which her dramatic, kohl-rimmed eyes became iconic.

Speaking this weekend, in an emotional speech at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, her eldest son recalled what he did the morning he discovered she had died.

The duke, who is Lord High Commissioner, said: "Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memories. But also, my saddest.

"I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother had died. Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the service at Crathie Kirk that very morning.

"And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep."

However, he added that it was also the place where he had the "great joy" of first meeting his wife Kate Middleton two decades ago this year, when they were both students at St Andrews University.
