Richard Madeley wants campmates to question Boy George over prison time

Richard Madeley is not happy with the campmates on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here for failing to ask Boy George about his time in prison.

The pop legend was previously jailed for assault and false imprisonment after beating sex worker Auden Carlsen and chaining them to a radiator.

While co-hosting Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid, Madeley brought up George's past: "He’s not been questioned about it. He chained someone to a radiator for a very long time and beat them up."

Reid responded by saying: "Well he denies the beating."

Madeley added: "Well, he was convicted and spent four months in prison and no one has mentioned it to him at all."

He also said: "I wonder if that’s because they’ve forgotten it. He says it was a psychotic episode partly fuelled by drugs, that’s his rationale."

In late 2008, Boy George was convicted of assault and false imprisonment and sentenced to 15 months in prison but only served four.

George blamed his actions on a "psychotic episode" during a time in his life when he was spending £400 a day on heroin.

George is said to have chained sex worker Auden Carlsen to a radiator before beating him with a belt and screaming abuse.

Carlsen recently criticised George for appearing on I'm a Celebrity, saying: "Had I been a woman and he did what he did, he would never have been given the platform. It's hurtful that big organisations like ITV give him that platform. I think giving him this sort of platform and a record."

A representative for the pop star issued a statement which said: "George went to jail for four months willingly after openly confessing to false imprisonment during a psychotic break 15 years ago whilst in the midst of a well-documented drug problem."

The statement also reiterated that George apologised publicly for his actions: "He apologised publicly on Piers Morgan's Life Stories four years ago and we are very proud of him for his rehabilitation. Everyone is entitled to a second chance and George has certainly earned it."
