Rebecca Adlington's partner didn't know who she was when they met on dating app

Rebecca Adlington has revealed that her partner Andy Parsons didn't realise who she was when they met on a dating app.

The 32-year-old Olympic gold medal winner shared the story of how they came to meet on Netmums Sweat, Snot and Tears podcast.

She kept a low-profile on the Bumble app, sharing her name and age but nothing about her success as a swimmer.

"I just put very normal photos on my profile and I didn’t say anything about the swimming in my biog," Adlington said. "Andy had no clue who I was.

"For two weeks we were messaging, we really got on, he got my sense of humour. He wanted my number, but I said no let’s go on Instagram. It was only when we connected on Instagram when the penny dropped and he said, 'Oh, you’ve got Olympic medals'.

"It was just a funny moment. I could tell he got really nervous for a bit. He loves sport, he’s a cycling fan."

She added she was initially "very apprehensive" about online dating but Parsons was the first person she went on a date with from it and "it worked".

The couple welcomed their first child together, a son named Albie, earlier this year.

She's already parent to daughter Summer, six, whom she shares with ex-husband Harry Needs.

Needs, also a former swimmer, came out as bisexual last year with Adlington publicly commending him for being "really brave and very honest".
