Rachel Stevens has described herself as an "encouraging not pushy" parent as she revealed her eldest daughter has landed a starring role in the West End.

Amelie, 11, will play the young Cosette in musical Les Miserables at London's Sondheim Theatre.

Stevens told Hello! Magazine: "Amelie really does lead this herself - I'm encouraging but not pushy, and from all the learning I've taken from my career, I try to give her the best advice I can and be there to answer her questions."

The 44-year-old former S Club 7 star - who announced in July she has split with her husband Alex Bourne after 13-years of marriage - is also mother to eight-year-old Minnie.

She added that she has told her daughters that her own fame may open doors for them in showbusiness but it is up to them to, "go through and prove what you can do".

Stevens said: "Who knows where life will take Amelie, but as long as she's doing something she's passionate about and she's happy, as her mum, that's all I could wish for."

Amelie said: "It is cool that I have a mum that's famous. I love watching the videos of S Club 7."

She added that the Bring It All back singer has taught her "never give up on your dreams" and that if you "put your mind to something you love, you can do anything."

Stevens announced her split on Instagram in July stating that she and Bourne "will remain partners in parenthood".

She wrote to her 280,000 followers via Instagram Stories: "I just wanted to share with you all that, after time and consideration, the difficult decision has been made for Alex and I to separate.

"While we are no longer partners in marriage, we will remain partners in parenthood to our beautiful girls and continue with love and respect for each other.

"I feel so incredibly grateful for the life we built together and will now continue to be focused on moving forward united as a family."

The singer competed on Dancing On Ice earlier this year, where she was supported by Bourne and their daughters.

The couple, who were childhood sweethearts, married in 2009.

Stevens previously revealed how she and Bourne first met at a youth club at the age of 12, dating for around a month before going their separate ways.

The couple met again years later and eventually chose to give their relationship another go.
