The sci-fi series followed physicist Dr Sam Beckett, who travelled through time and took the place of other people to correct mistakes in history.

It also featured Stockwell as the doctor’s best friend Al. He appeared to Dr Beckett as a hologram and tried to help him however he could, whilst often getting distracted by his love of a good time.

The series aired for five seasons, from 1989 to 1993.

It ended with Dr Beckett failing to return home from an adventure, leaving fans guessing about what happened to him.
