Harry and Meghan’s royal exit to be turned into movie

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit from the royal family is set to get the Lifetime movie treatment, it has been announced.

The US network has previously produced two other feature-length offerings that focus on the couple and in a statement issued to Variety, Lifetime say that the new film – titled Escape The Palace – will complete what they are now billing as their ‘Harry and Meghan trilogy’.

A synopsis for the movie claims it will reveal “what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son Archie”.

It continues: “The movie will detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ was not defending them against the press’s attacks and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death.

“Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will also reveal the private family feuds between Will and Harry, Kate and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles, that lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties.”

Lifetime’s 2018 production Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance charted the couple’s love story and marked the network’s first foray into films about the pair. A year later, they released Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal, which focussed on their first 12 months as husband and wife.

The first two films featured different actors in the lead roles and Variety reports casting for a third pair of stars to play the famous couple is now underway.

It’s believed production will start in the coming months. The film could then debut as early as this autumn.

Harry and Meghan announced that they were planning to step back from their royal duties in January 2020.

They then completed their final appearance and engagements in March 2020, before relocating to California and beginning a year-long “transitional period”.

Last month, shortly after the couple revealed they are expecting their second child, it was announced that they would not return as working royals.

Harry and Meghan then sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they spoke openly about their difficulties while in the UK, struggles with mental health and made the bombshell claim that a member of the royal family raised “concerns” over what colour baby Archie’s skin would be.
