Piers Morgan tells Boris Johnson 'you're Prime Minister, not Worzel Gummidge'

Piers Morgan has mocked Boris Johnson for looking like Worzel Gummidge after he released a dishevelled-looking video addressing his self-isolation controversy.

Over the weekend, the Prime Minister and his Chancellor Rishi Sunak revealed that they had been pinged by the NHS test and trace app to say that they had come into close contact with someone who had tested positive for coronavirus - but unlike thousands of others in the same situation, they wouldn't be self-isolating.

The pair provoked fury as they said that they would be taking part in a pilot scheme to test every day that would allow them to continue working from Downing Street rather than isolating for 10 days, but soon did a U-turn after a torrent of complaints.

Commenting on the video where Johnson spoke about his self-isolation with his famously untidy hair sticking up in tufts, Morgan tweeted: "Boris Johnson tells us to abide by the rules he intended to circumvent until everyone wants nuts.

"What a shambles - but what else to expect from a guy who can’t be bothered to even brush his hair when he addresses the British people?

"You’re Prime Minister, not Worzel Gummidge."

Later, Morgan supported his son Spencer in a tweet about Freedom Day and the reopening of nightclubs.

Spencer wrote: "Today you will see a lot of older people whining about the young finally getting to enjoy the best part about being young A lot of these people will also call their younger years the ‘best of their lives’ Today’s young sacrificed 17 months of theirs for them Should be grateful"

Morgan retweeted the post and wrote: "My eldest son and I have vehemently disagreed about many things in the pandemic but I understand this sentiment. When I was his age (27), I Ioved nightclubs. It’s been a very tough 16 months for that industry and for those who support it & like clubbing."
