Piers Morgan says 'Friends' is 'overrated' and not funny

Piers Morgan has risked the wrath of Friends fans by declaring the much-loved sitcom “overrated” and unfunny.

Fans of the show are currently in a state of high excitement, with this week’s long-awaited reunion triggering plenty of nostalgia.

But former Good Morning Britain star Morgan did not hold back when it came to sharing his views on the comedy.

He spoke out after his son Spencer posted a message on Twitter ahead of the reunion, saying that it wasn’t the time to play it cool about the programme.

“Reminder that no one cares that you think you’re too clever to like Friends. Have a day off #FriendsReunion,” he wrote.

But Morgan replied: “Friends isn’t funny. Never has been, never will be. Most overrated show in TV history.”

Fans were pretty unimpressed about his remark.

“I usually agree with what you say but you have this so wrong! Friends is the best sitcom of all time!” one person tweeted.

“Friends is the greatest show ever in TV, I’m British and I don't think I can name a decent British show, but Friends is the greatest of all time, clearly a hater because you weren't included in the reunion,” said another.

One person gave a nod to Friends’ theme tune by The Rembrandts, posting: “Come on Piers.. It's like you're always stuck in second gear.

"And it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.”

For the first time in 17 years, the cast of Friends reunites for a special celebration of the beloved, smash-hit comedy series.
