How to watch Donald Glover's Mr & Mrs Smith remake
Killer couple rom-com Mr & Mrs Smith is the latest movie to get the reboot treatment, this time on the small-screen via Prime Video.
Originally released in 2005 and directed by Doug Liman, Mr & Mrs Smith stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a loving couple who both secretly work as contract killers, an unusual career that each partner is happily oblivious to. Despite this, they managed to maintain a relatively healthy marriage - until their opposing employers task them with killing each other.
Despite being a relatively successful box office hit, the movie’s reputation off-screen may have overshadowed its onscreen antics, with Pitt and Jolie starting their own personal relationship during the movie’s shoot.
Now, the concept has been retooled by Community and Solo actor Donald Glover, who stars alongside PEN15's Maya Erksine. Here’s everything you need to know about the TV series.
How to watch the Mr & Mrs Smith series
All eight episodes of Mr & Mrs Smith are streaming on Amazon service Prime Video now.
Filming for Glover’s series began in the summer of 2022, with the show originally scheduled to hit Amazon’s streaming service later that year. The reboot was later pushed to November 2023, but due to Hollywood strikes it was delayed again.
What are the reviews like?
Glover and Erskine's Mr & Mrs Smith reboot is here and, if reviews are to be believed, it comes with a sizzling bout of sexual chemistry. Available now on Prime Video, the show has left critics smiling, with The Telegraph calling the show "that rare thing: a remake that improves on the original."
The Evening Standard called the series a marked improvement from what has come before, saying it "thankfully has a lot more meat on its bones," with The Independent saying the series walks the tightrope of sexy and smart.
"Mr & Mrs Smith manages to be one of the sexiest shows on TV," explained the outlet, "and somehow, even with all the balaclavas and firearms and computer hacking, one of the most truthful ones."

What is the plot of the Mr & Mrs Smith series?
As detailed above, Liman’s original Mr & Mrs Smith movie saw a married couple played by Pitt and Jolie attempt to take the other out after the hitman agencies they work for task them with killing each other.
Before long, the duo decide to put their guns down and work together in order to put a stop to the organisation behind their planned murders.
2023’s version, co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, looks set to follow a similar storyline while taking things to new and unexpected places — presumably enough to warrant a number of different episodes.
According to the series' official synopsis, “John and Jane Smith enter into a new phase of their marriage after agreeing to work as spies for a mysterious agency.”
Who's in the Mr & Mrs Smith cast?
In addition to co-creating the series, Glover also co-stars as John Smith, with PEN15 and Man Seeking Woman star Maya Erskine playing his wife Jane.
Erskine joined the project in April 2022 after Phoebe Waller-Bridge dropped out of the project due to “creative differences” in September 2021.
Later, in an interview with Vanity Fair, the Fleabag and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star clarified her reasons for leaving the project. “I worked on that show for six months fully in heart and mind and really cared about it – still care about it,” she told the outlet.
“And I know it’s gonna be brilliant. But sometimes it’s about knowing when to leave the party. You don’t want to get in the way of a vision.”
She continued, explaining that some creative collaborations are a lot “like a marriage” and that “some marriages don’t work out.”
The show features a host of other stars including The Batman’s Paul Dano, The Big Lebowski’s John Turturro, Chewing Gum’s Michaela Coel, Parker Posey and Brazilian actor Wagner Moura.
Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, Sarah Paulson and Alexander Skarsgård also appear.
Is there a trailer for Amazon Prime’s Mr & Mrs Smith?
The latest trailer for Prime Video's Mr & Mrs Smith series dropped online in January 2024. The two-minute trailer showed a very specific set of relationship goals - ones that involve bullets, car chases and action.
The first teaser arrived in late 2023. It introduces us to Glover and Erskine's married couple who are secretly hired killers. At first, we see them innocently chatting away in a cafe but by the time the teaser ends, they're bloody and bruised. Watch it below
