Maya Jama has been confirmed as the host for Simon Cowell's latest TV singing contest Walk The Line.

The TV presenter will front music mogul Cowell's new show for ITV, which will also see him star as a judge.

Walk The Line puts a different spin on singing competitions by asking the contestants to bet on themselves for a hefty cash prize.

Acts taking part can be soloists, duos, groups or even choirs, and they must sing for a panel of judges headed up by Cowell.

But talent alone will not be enough to bag the £500,000 prize pot, as they will need to choose whether to cash out for a smaller amount at each stage of the competition or "walk the line" and stay in the game for another week.

Jama, whose previous presenting work has included the MOBO Awards, Save Our Summer and Glow Up, said: “If someone said to me, describe your dream job. It would be this! I literally couldn’t be more excited to be working with Syco, Lifted Entertainment and the incredible team at ITV on Walk The Line.”

The series is set to launch later this year and will replace The X Factor, which was axed in July after 17 years.

The X Factor was a giant of reality TV, launching the careers of stars including Little Mix, Alexandra Burke and One Direction, but last aired in 2018, when it was won by Dalton Harris.

It is reportedly being rested for five years, although ITV has said there are no current plans for a new series.

Judges on The X Factor included Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger, Cheryl and Robbie Williams, but so far nothing has been confirmed about the rest of the judging panel for Walk The Line.
