Love Island contestant Shannon Singh has left the door open for fans who hope she'll return to the show as part of a shock twist.

The 22-year-old model was dumped from the villa after just 24 hours, when newcomer Chloe Burrows chose to steal her partner, Aaron Francis.

Given the speed of her exit from the show, viewers have speculated that she could be reintroduced as part of a twist to the format — or as one of the cast members of the annual Casa Amor week.

When asked about the possibility she might return to Majorca by The Sun, Singh said she was "keeping my cards close to my chest".

She added: "Who knows what’s going to happen? I think the future holds what the future holds. I’m not ruling it out, I'm not saying I'm going to go in."

The fallout from Singh's dumping has been significant on social media, with Love Island producers issuing a message to fans warning them not to abuse other Islanders.

Their intervention came in the wake of Chloe Burrows's family revealing death threats and other offensive messages her account has received since Singh's departure.

The family wrote: "We all have thick skin but the amount of trolling Chloe has been receiving is absolutely disgusting.

“This morning we woke up to yet another DM encouraging Chloe to kill herself — there have been HUNDREDS.”

Former contestant Dr Alex George was among those who condemned the abuse directed at Burrows, writing on Instagram that he was "sickened" by the news.

He added: "I am saddened to see how much negativity and hate there has been online during this series of Love Island.

"Hard to comprehend that people are sending death threats and encouraging contestants to 'kill themselves' just because they don’t like what they are seeing on screen."

Love Island is in the spotlight for the way it approaches this issue, following the suicide of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis, as well as presenter Caroline Flack.

The show says it has improved its aftercare offering and mental health support for contestants this year.
