'Love Island' 2021 officially returning to its 'home' villa of Mallorca

ITV bosses have confirmed Love Island is returning to its Mallorca residency when the series returns at the end of June.

The popular dating show, currently hosted by Laura Whitmore, has become must-watch TV in the six years it's been on the air, as bikini-clad and trunk-wearing singletons look for love (while also getting a tan).

In 2020, Love Island moved to South Africa for the first time for winter series, but coronavirus forced them to axe summer plans.

Now, after a year away, the team are returning to the swanky mansion in the Spanish islands, with ITV Commissioner Amanda Stavri stating that it’s Love Island’s ‘home’.

“We haven’t announced anything officially but Mallorca is very much the home of Love Island,” she told RadioTimes.

“I can’t confirm anything 100 per cent at this stage but it will definitely be the Love Island viewers know and love.”

In light of the pandemic, Love Island was put on hold until the team could send the contestants on a luxury getaway in the sun.

To win, they need to couple up and convince viewers that they’ve actually found romance by the end of the run.

If they fail, they risk getting dumped from the island.

In the new chat, Stavri confirmed that the Love Island team were looking at alternative venues, but ultimately felt like it wouldn’t work unless they shot in Spain.

She said: “We did look into some back-up plans but we were all very much focused on making it happen in Mallorca, which is where it belongs quite frankly.”

The series is due to return on June 28 on ITV2.

Scottish comedian Iain Stirling, who is married to host Whitmore, will return once again as the voiceover for the drama.
