Laura Whitmore has shared a photo of her breastfeeding her daughter as she called for more support for new mums learning how to feed.

The Love Island presenter has a four-month-old daughter with husband Iain Stirling and posted a photo of herself breastfeeding in a break between shoots for the ITV dating show as she soaked up the sun in an outdoor cafe.

Sharing her hopes that more women would get the breastfeeding support she had, she wrote on Instagram: "I get a bit anxious talking about my child on this space as I feel so protective but I wanted to talk about breastfeeding.

"This isn’t knocking anyone who doesn’t but it’s #breastfeedingawarenessweek and I know so many new mums don’t get the support they need like the encouragement of feeding in the golden hour after birth and that it’s ok to feed in public without feeling you should hide away.

"Feeding your baby is your number one priority. I’ve exclusively breastfed for over 4 months so far- it’s free and no washing up! I’ve also been supported, having my baby on set or being able to pump for the odd feed.

"Anyway hoping a picture of me with my tits out doesn’t offend you and encourages women to feed if they need ! I was just so shocked a lot of women don’t have enough support or embarrassed to feed in public. Breast milk is full of everything your baby needs and recommended by @who . It’s magic stuff!

"And remember to please support new mums and dads trying to navigate parenthood their way."

The post was a hit with Whitmore's followers, who praised her for showing solidarity with other new mums by breastfeeding in public and sharing the photo.

Many of the TV presenter's famous friends also sent her messages of encouragement, with Kimberley Walsh and June Sarpong showing their love for her post.

Comedian Katherine Ryan, who recently welcomed her second child, wrote: "LMK if anyone gives you trouble and I will publicly injure them."

Paloma Faith, who also shared her breastfeeding experiences after her second child was born earlier this year, commented: "Not enough boob for my liking ! Ahahhahaha."

Chef Thomasina Miers added: "Well said Laura!"

This Morning's Dr Zoe Williams, who has just become a mum for the first time, wrote: "Thank you."

Actor Bronagh Waugh told her: "Bloody love you ya ledge. You’re brilliant. Xxx"

And TV presenter Pips Taylor commented: "Super mama."
