'Later With Jools Holland' to return with live audience for first time in two years

Later... with Jools Holland is set to return with a studio audience for the first time in two years.

The long-running live music show will return to TV screens from this upcoming Saturday, 14 May and feature a wide array of guests.

Holland made the announcement on his social media accounts, writing: “I’m very excited that my tv show returns on BBC Two on Saturday nights from the 14th of May."

He added: “The first time all the musical guests are in the same room as one another since lockdown. Wooooohoooo.

"I will reveal more about lineup and new location soon. Until then, to give you a smell of it, here’s the full opening titles filmed in my layout.”

Shortly after the BBC confirmed that Wet Leg, Obongjayar and Joe Bonamassa will be among those featuring on the first episode which is being filmed at the restored Alexandra Palace Theatre in London.

The BBC also announced the lineup for the show's second episode which will most notably feature Liam Gallagher ahead of the release of his third solo album.

The other musicians to feature on that week's episode include Oumou Sangaré, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul and Irish musician Sinead O’Brien.

Gallagher had previously teased an appearance on the former Squeeze piano player's show by tweeting: "Thankyou to jools Holland for the bottle of wine last night it’s a belter LG x."

During lockdown, Holland performed interviews over video link with stars such as Gregory Porter and Laura Marling where they would select some of their favourite performances from the show's past.

As lockdown restrictions eased, the show went on to feature special performances from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones and Self-Esteem but without a studio audience.

Later... with Jools Holland premiered on the BBC in 1992 with a show that featured The Neville Brothers and Liverpool rock band The Christians.
