Kate Garraway hopes husband Derek Draper can join her at National Television Awards after COVID battle
Kate Garraway has revealed her hopes that husband Derek Draper will be able to join her at this year’s National Television Awards as he continues to recover from COVID-19 which left he seriously ill.
The pair have been nominated for the ‘authored documentary’ category at the ceremony following one-off film Finding Derek, which tracked Draper’s severe medical struggle after getting coronavirus in March 2020.
Garraway was seen balancing her work, children and the new added responsibility of looking after her husband of 16 years, providing insight into how the pandemic can affect everyone in the family.

But now he's on the road to recovery, Garraway has expressed her hopes of them appearing together at the upcoming TV bash.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Garraway said: “I was just thinking, wouldn’t it be wonderful if Derek was well enough to come?
“I was trying to work out the dates and see the logistics of how it would work.”
“There are some brilliant people in the category, there are some fantastic documentaries, I don’t think for a moment we’ll win, but it would just be lovely for him to be there,” she added.

Draper is now back at home with his family after being in a medical coma for more than a year. He now faces several years of rehabilitation, with the family previously warned he may never fully recover.
Doctors have stated Draper had the ‘worst case of COVID-19 infection of any surviving patient’ - with the infection causing damage to his lungs, heart, kidneys and liver.
It’s hoped that he will start making meaningful progress over the next two years if he is to make a significant recovery.
Joining Finding Derek in the newly-created category is Katie Price for her film Harvey and Me, which documents life with her son, who has numerous severe disabilities.
Marcus Rashford’s Feeding Britain’s Children is also on the shortlist, alongside Rob Burrow: My Year With MND, and Roman Kemp’s mental health film, Our Silent Emergency.
The winner will be announced at the NTA’s in September.
Joel Dommett will be hosting the star-studded ceremony.
