John Bishop was left stranded beside the road on the hottest day of the year after crashing his car in Wales.

The 54-year-old comedian and new Doctor Who cast member joked about being in the back of a police car as friendly officers gave him a lift to catch a ferry to Ireland after missing his original crossing.

Bishop joked on Instagram: "I'm in the back of a police car! But for good reasons. These guys are helping me out."
