That's a pretty loaded headline, so let me explain myself. A smartphone gimbal is a handheld stabilizer that helps eliminate shake while you're recording video. It can also keep the camera trained on a particular subject while you move around. In short, it's a really effective tool for any videographer. (I'm looking at you TikTok-ers.)
These things have been around for years; early models sold for well over $100. More recently I've seen them dip under $100. But I've never, ever seen this: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Amazon seller mexcellentUS has the Hohem iSteady X 3-axis smartphone gimbal for $29.50 when you clip the $10-off coupon and then apply promo code H6PSXAGB at checkout. That absolutely destroys all previous deals I've seen on this.
(Quick note: If you happen to hit Amazon and see a different seller listed, it's likely because mexcellentUS is sold out. Unfortunately, that means the coupon likely won't appear and the code won't work.)
The iSteady X is a motorized contraption, one that's battery-powered and rechargeable. It must be paired with your phone via an Android or iOS app, which is also what's used for things like gesture controls and face tracking. When not in use, it folds up for easier storage in the included carrying case.
Hohem also includes a removable tripod that you can screw to the bottom of the iSteady X. That's great for capturing time-lapse and panning shots or just doing hands-free selfie video.
I've used an iSteady X in the past. It works quite well overall, but be prepared: There's a learning curve. The controls definitely take some practice, and the companion app isn't the most intuitive. You won't find much help in Hohem's instructions; I recommend seeking out some YouTube videos.
Once you take the time to master everything, though, I think you'll find this a really useful asset. And at this price, it's practically an impulse buy. If you shoot any kind of video at all, I definitely recommend taking a look.
