Holly Willoughby said her excitement level was “off the chart” as she finally prepared to shoot her dream role in Midsomer Murders.

The presenter is a huge fan of the murder mystery series and earlier this year was surprised with the offer of a guest part as she hosted This Morning.

Willoughby, 40, has now shared that the time to film her part has come.

Announcing the news to fans, the star posted a video on Instagram of her opening and closing a clapperboard.

“Today is the day… @officialmidsomer … excitement levels off the chart!” Willoughby wrote.

The presenter was offered a role in March, when Midsomer Murders actors Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix appeared on This Morning.

The pair went on the show planning to offer Willoughby a part.

She was none the wiser, but her co-presenter Phillip Schofield was in on the secret.

When they spilled the beans Willoughby instantly says "yes".

But she did joke that she’d probably have to be killed off pretty quickly as she wasn’t much of an actress.

“If you kill me, can I die by eating chocolate because I saw an episode where someone died from eating chocolate and I thought, ‘That is the way to go’," she added.

Fans were thrilled to see that Willoughby was filming for the series and sent her lots of good luck.

“Amazing, you are going to be fab in it! Enjoy,” one person posted on Instagram.

“I was wondering when you’d be doing this. Know you’ve been looking forward to this for ages... have the best time,” said another.

Crime drama Midsomer Murders started in 1997 and so far has run for 21 series.
