Henry Cavill has shared the happy news that he and girlfriend Natalie Viscuso are expecting their first child together.

The Man of Steel star revealed that he is going to become a dad at the premiere of his latest movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, where he told Access Hollywood: "Natalie and I are both very excited."

Cavill and Viscuso have been dating for three years - but what do we know about their relationship so far?

Who is Natalie Viscuso?

Film star Cavill's partner Viscuso is not an actor, but she does have a prominent role in the entertainment industry.

Viscuso, who is from Roswell, New Mexico, but now lives in California, is vice president of television and digital studios at Legendary Entertainment.

The company has worked on some major films, including Man of Steel and Enola Holmes which starred Cavill, so it seems this may be how the couple met.

Back in 2021, the pair were first spotted holding hands, and soon after made things Instagram official in April 2021 as Cavill shared photos of them spending time together.

They have been dating for three years now and are often seen together on red carpets, but their red carpet debut as a couple came in 2022 when they both attended the premiere for Enola Holmes 2.

However, Cavill found he had to come out fighting for his new girlfriend early on in their relationship when they were targeted by some cruel comments online...

Hitting back at trolls

Just a month after confirming their relationship on social media, Cavill was forced to make a statement on Instagram in May 2021 pleading with fans to stop speculating about his private life.

He wrote: "Dear fans and followers, I wanted to make a wee community announcement. I couldn't help but notice that there has been some social animosity of late. It's becoming increasingly prevalent on my feed. There has been lots of, let's call it speculation for now, about my private life and professional partnerships.

"Now, while I do appreciate the passion and support by those very people who are 'speculating,' it has come to such a point that I needed to say something, which in itself, is a bad thing. We are living in an age of social enlightenment. More and more, people are realizing that their views may have been blinkered and that they need to expand them to encompass others.

"So, to you out there who are expressing your disdain and showing your displeasure through a surprising variety of ways, it's time to stop. I know it can be fun to speculate, to gossip, and to dive into our own personal echo chambers on the internet, but your 'passion' is misplaced, and it causes harm to the people I care about most. Even your most conservative of negative assumptions about both my personal and professional life just aren't true.

"Let's embrace this age of social enlightenment together, and move forward with positivity. I am very happy in love, and in life. I'd be enormously grateful if you were happy with me. If you can't bring yourself to be happy with me, then at the very least try to do yourself proud and be the best version of yourself."

Enjoying life together

The couple appear to lead a wholesome life together in Cavill's social media posts, sharing many interests with photos of them spending time outdoors as well as playing chess.

Fans will be familiar with photos of them walking Henry's dogs together, although they sadly lost French bulldog Meat last year.

They enjoy running and walking, and in 2022 shared a photo from a charity 13km race that they took part in together.

What has Henry Cavill said about parenthood?

Before he got together with Viscuso, Cavill shared that he would love to be a dad and told what sort of parent he would like to be.

He told Men's Health in 2017: "If I ever have kids one day, I want to be the dad who's running round after them.

"And if I do have kids, even now, it's starting to get quite late. But I want to be a fit and healthy dad, not hobbling round like, 'OK, I'm just going to catch a breather'."

Baby news

Earlier this week, fans had speculated that the couple might be expecting when they were photographed out together in New York City and Viscuso appeared to have a baby bump.

Cavill confirmed the news to Access Hollywood at the US premiere for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, where he was asked if seeing co-star Henry Golding being a dad had inspired him to become a parent too.

He said: "I mean, he didn’t inspire me to do that. My parents did.

"But, I’m very excited about it. Natalie and I are both very excited. I’m sure you’ll see much more of that."
