The actress, now best known for playing Scarlet Witch Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was called in to perform the role of Mother Of Dragons, which eventually went to Emilia Clarke.
However, it wasn’t to be, and Olsen has now admitted she bombed the scene given to her.
“Yes, I auditioned for Game of Thrones. I auditioned for, like, the assistant to the casting director in a small room in New York with just a camera on me and them reading the script,” Olsen told Hollywood Reporter.
“I was doing the Khaleesi speech when she comes out of the fire. It was awful. I didn’t get a callback.”
While it didn’t work out for Olsen, the role did eventually go to Emilia Clarke, who became famed as the warrior queen fighting for a shot at the Iron Throne.
The character was such a fan favourite that a spin-off series based on the character’s family heritage is now in production.
House Of The Dragon, starring Matt Smith, Paddy Considine and Emma D’Arcy, is currently filming in in the UK.
It will be set 300 years before the main events of Game Of Thrones, and will delve into the family’s hereditary descent into madness during their quest for power.
Olsen is still attached to the MCU having made her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.
Most recently, her character Wanda landed her own spin-off series, WandaVision, marking the massive franchise’s first major move into TV series.
It’s been confirmed that Wanda will have a major role to play in the upcoming Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
She will star in the film alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange.
Game Of Thrones is available on Sky Atlantic and HBO.
