While Denise Van Outen turns 47 this month, it seems she and her partner Eddie Boxshall are already planning those retirement years!

The pair revealed their vision on the final episode of their podcast Before We Say I Do. The series follows the Celebrity Googlebox couple as they examine different types of therapy in the hope of ironing out any issues before they marry.

For this episode, Van Outen and Boxshall were put under hypnosis by therapist Aaron Calvert, who asked them to reveal what they saw when they looked into the future.

“In the future, we were sitting, looking out at the horizon at the sea” revealed Van Outen.

She continued: “We were sitting together the two of us, just having a drink, laughing. Probably the retirement years, maybe!”

Interestingly, Boxshall, who has been dating Van Outen for seven years, said his vision of the future was pretty similar.

“This is going to sound really mad, but my vision was us as an old couple, walking along the promenade of a beach!” he laughed.

“The future end goal was exactly the same as yours - walking hand in hand in like our mid to late 70s, on the beach with the sun shining!”

While Boxshall was amazed that the pair had experienced the same vision of their future, Van Outen was not so surprised.

“It’s what we've always talked about,” she told Calvert.

“Eventually, most people from Essex end up retiring in Spain. It's very predictable!”

Asked by Calvert as to what they saw in the future that was missing from life now, the pair agreed that they needed to start talking more calmly about any issues that arise.

“The missing piece was to drop that immediate anger when there's something that annoys me and to talk,” admitted Boxshall.

He continued: “I think it was for me to drop my frustrations with things. I know I can get angry pretty quickly, so for that to disappear.”

During the episode, the pair were hypnotised to ‘become’ each other. When they came out of the hypnosis period, Van Outen believed she was Boxshall – and vice versa! The idea behind it was to give them a moment in each other’s shoes.

After the session, Van Outen said the whole hypnosis experience was really strange and felt like being in a dream!

“It was like I was on the brink of sleep - but it was like I was in a dreamlike state,” she said.

“I can remember snippets of what was said or what we did or what happened, but it’s like I'm talking about another person. It’s how I would imagine maybe having an out of body experience would be!”

While it was a pretty unusual therapy session compared to some of the other counselling sessions they tried out, Van Outen said that having the same vision about their retirement years was a lovely way to end the series.

She said: “We got that happy ending of both being together, which meant that by the end of it, we were completely in tune with each other!”

You can hear what happened when Denise Van Outen and Eddie Boxshall tried out different kinds of relationship therapy in their podcast Before We Say I Do. All six episodes are now available to listen to on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
