Coronation Street Christmas preview: Will Fiz and Tyrone wed in disastrous surprise?

There’s a wedding to prepare for as Coronation Street airs its hour-long festive special on Christmas Day at 7pm. But will it go ahead?

The ITV soap has recently seen Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) planning a surprise wedding for Christmas Day; but he may regret keeping fiancée Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) in the dark.

Ty has allowed Fiz to think he’s making no effort for Christmas, and his ruse is working a little too well. She has no idea that he’s been running around organising the big day of her dreams, enlisting Beth Sutherland (Lisa George) to make the dress and putting the Rovers on standby for the reception.

The result of all this secrecy is a rather lacklustre start to Fiz’s day - and it only goes downhill from there.

Fiz is disappointed when she opens her gifts from Tyrone, only to find a box of chocolates and a key ring. Pleased that she doesn’t suspect his romantic gesture, Tyrone shares a secret smile with their daughters, Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Macy Alabi).

But everything goes disastrously wrong when Tyrone and the girls dress up in their finery and seek out Fiz for the big reveal, only to discover that she’s gone out to buy a turkey. When he calls her, Tyrone realises that Fiz has left her phone at home.

Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) tell Tyrone to head to the venue, leaving Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) to wait for Fiz.

Unfortunately, things aren’t looking hopeful after a long wait at the hotel. Tyrone tells the guests that the wedding is off; and everyone descends on the pub for the buffet.

Little does he know that poor Fiz’s car has broken down on a country road, and without her mobile she has no choice but to search for a phone box. Just as everything seems hopeless, Fiz finds a passing stranger called Chris, explaining her predicament.

Will Chris save the day, or has Tyrone’s surprise backfired?

We can’t reveal any more than the above. But to pay tribute to Fiz and Tyrone's on/off romance, which has lasted over 20 years, Coronation Street has released an exclusive interview on its YouTube channel.
