'Coronation Street' and 'Brookside' actor Alan Igbon dies aged 68

Soap actor Alan Igbon has died at the age of 68.

The actor had appeared in Coronation Street and Channel 4 soap Brookside, as well as 80s TV dramas Scum and Boys from the Blackstuff.

His niece announced on Facebook: “Early December 2020 my mum’s brother Alan Igbon, my uncle passed away peaceful [sic].

“He is well known for being an actor in Boys from the black stuff, Scum, GBH, Coronation st, Brookside and many more. R.i.e.p [sic]”

Igbon appeared in Corrie in 2003 as Jason Grimshaw’s estranged father Tony Stewart. A role that was taken over by Terence Maynard in 2014.

The Manchester-born actor made his breakthrough in the 1979 TV film Scum, playing prison inmate Meakin.

He went on to star as gang member Angadi in 1980 police drama The Professionals.

He is also known for his role of Loggo in BBC drama Boys from the Blackstuff and had also appeared in medical soap Doctors and Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

His former Brookside co-star Louis Emerick tweeted in tribute: “Another sad loss, #AlanAdjIgbon..Riep Adj Boys from the blackstuff, Scum, Gbh, Brooky, Corrie, Adj graced them all.

“A very underrated actor, Adj was an inspiration to me, he and @PaulBarberActor made me realise ‘Yes it can be done’ Goodbye Adj, never forgotten.”
