Coldplay have announced that they are going on a world tour and that it will have an environmentally friendly focus.

The 'Fix You' singers – fronted by Chris Martin – are hitting the road in 2022 for the first time in four years.

And after years of planning they are giving the Music Of The Spheres tour an eco-friendly focus, with a special dancefloor that will help power the concerts and a tree planted for every ticket sold.

A post on the band’s Instagram account said: “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis.

"So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

"We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.”

“If you'd like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you,” the post said.

Martin told the BBC that one of the steps they will take is that concert-goers will be on “kinetic flooring”. This means that when they move, it powers the show.

The star also said he is prepared for any backlash when it comes to things like flying to tour stops, as he accepts they have not got it “perfect” yet.

“And the people that give us backlash for that kind of thing, for flying, they're right,” said the star. “So we don't have any argument against that."
