Bez suffers dramatic head-banging fall in first-look 'Dancing On Ice' clip

Watch: Bez suffers dramatic head-banging fall in Dancing On Ice training

Dancing On Ice is already proving dangerous for Bez, who hits the ice with such force that his helmet flies off in a first-look clip of the celebrities training.

The Happy Mondays star is taking part in the 2022 series which launches on Sunday evening and will be in the first group of contestants to skate - but he has suffered a dramatic fall on the training rink that would put many off venturing back onto the ice.

A first-look clip from Sunday's ITV show, which will feature the first half of the cast skating live for the first time, shows Bez falling backwards at speed and hitting his head so hard that his helmet flies off.

He says: "I feel like Frank Spencer on ice. My helmet has been a life-saving piece of equipment."

Bez is all set to launch the 2022 series. (ITV)

Last year's contest featured a record number of celebrity drop-outs due to injury and illness, making the stakes even higher for this year's brave cast.

This series is said to feature some of the strongest skaters yet, with many seasoned performers taking part including former Strictly Come Dancing pro Brendan Cole and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.

Making reference to his time on Strictly, the clip shows Cole saying: "Fifteen years on that other show, not sure I broke a sweat more than about four times."

Host Phillip Schofield has claimed Strictly is much easier than Dancing On Ice, saying: "I love Strictly but compared to the skills that are required for Dancing On Ice it’s a walk in the park, because you have the possibility of real danger, real injury."

He added: "I’ve just watched a video of Bez on his second day fall over backwards so hard that his helmet flew off. It’s one of those things but you don’t see that on Strictly."

While Cole might be one of the favourites to win, he has strong competition from Olympic BMX rider Kye Whyte who is shown saying: "To be honest, I'm here to win it. I've been silver medallist twice now, this time it has to be gold."
