BBC Radio 2 in the Park will take place in Lancashire this year, it has been announced.

The live music event will be held in Moor Park in Preston in September. There had been speculation about where the popular festival might be this year and Gaby Roslin confirmed it during the breakfast show on Wednesday (April 24).

Head of Radio 2 Helen Thomas said she was “delighted” the show was heading to Preston. “Following last year's epic extravaganza in Leicester, we can't wait to head north with our fantastic family of Radio 2 presenters, as well as some of the most loved music artists on the planet, to party with the good people of Lancashire,” she said.

BBC Radio 2 in the Park 2024 will take place in Preston over the weekend of September 7 and 8. So far organisers haven’t revealed who will be performing, but the full artist line-up is set to be revealed in early June.

Tickets will go on sale shortly after.

The music festival, which stretches over two days and features a raft of live performances, started in 2011 and was initially held in London’s Hyde Park.

It sees the radio station essentially decamp and head to where it is being held for the duration, with many of the presenters going along too.

Last year was a biggie for the event, as it returned after long break. It had been missing from the showbiz calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic and then the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

It was held in Victoria Park in Leicester and included a dazzling performance from Kylie Minogue. She performed for more than an hour, treating the crowd to a string of her greatest hits, including Spinning Around, On A Night Like This, Padam Padam and Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

Tears For Fears also headlined, and Eurovision star Sam Ryder was among the performers.

Radio 2 in the Park, once known as Radio 2 Live, has featured performances from some massive names over the tears.

Stars such as Gary Barlow, Tom Jones, Jessie J, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Blondie have all hit the stage at the festival.
