Ant and Dec have said it’s hoped that I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! will return to its “spiritual home” in Australia this year.

The ITV reality show is traditionally set in the jungle Down Under but moved to Wales in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, and returned there for the 2021 series.

Last year's series was hit with problems, including having to pause for a few days after the production base was damaged during Storm Arwen.

The presenters were asked on ITV’s Lorraine whether I’m A Celeb would return to Australia this year, where the celebrity contestants sizzle in the jungle rather than freeze in Gwrych Castle in Abergele.

“Let’s hope so,” Ant said. “But we said that last year!

"We would all like to go back. It’s proper home, so fingers crossed.”

Dec told presenter Lorraine Kelly that while the programme had also been great in Wales, he felt that Australia was its “spiritual home”.

“We can torment them a bit more in Australia too,” he added.

“And we never get called off there with a storm!” Ant quipped.

The pair also said that when the show is in Australia they get to play golf in their time off but that they couldn’t do that in north Wales last year because it was “too drizzly”.

The latest series saw Danny Miller crowned King of the Castle.

The Emmerdale star pipped Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson to the title. Loose Women presenter and former Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge came third.
