He's known for his Good Morning Britain rants against Covidiocy, but Piers Morgan has held his hands up and admitted "for a few seconds, I was a Covidiot".

Morgan was pictured in a taxi without a mask after a night out with his wife Celia, who had remembered to wear her own face covering.

Responding to the story in The Sun on Sunday, Morgan tweeted that it had been a momentary lapse caused by being distracted as he chatted to the paparazzi who had taken the photo.

After a Twitter follower asked him whether the story was made up, he responded: "No, The Sun was right. I did breach Covid rules for a few seconds by forgetting to put my mask on before I got in the cab.

"Fortunately, I remembered as we pulled away and put it on.

"Masks help save lives, so it's very important we all remember to wear them when we should."

Replying to someone else who questioned him on what had happened, he took full responsibility for forgetting to wear his mask as he got into the car.

He tweeted: "I haven't made an excuse, I just explained what happened. I'm guilty as charged. For a few seconds, I was a Covidiot and I deserve the full wrath of Twitter hell to now descend on me."

Morgan was also happy to explain more about the night to his followers, saying that he had been busy chatting to photographers who were telling him about the effects of Covid-19 on their income.

During his Good Morning Britain rants about celebrity coronavirus rule flouters, he has laid into Rita Ora for breaking lockdown to host a 30th birthday bash at a time when she should also have been quarantining following a trip to Egypt.

He has also made his feelings known about actor Laurence Fox's disregard for lockdown rules in hosting a large lunch party for friends.

Morgan has even offered to take the Covid vaccine live on air in a bid to encourage others to vaccinate.
