Piers Morgan made short work of shutting down a troll who appeared to suggest he was being paid to promote the coronavirus vaccine.

The Good Morning Britain presenter snapped straight back after the Twitter user asked if he had received money from Bill Gates, who has been targeted by vaccine conspiracy theorists.

The Twitter user was apparently referring to a conspiracy theory that suggests the pandemic is a cover for a plan to implant microchips that can be tracked, and that Gates is behind it. A claim that The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has told the BBC is "false".

Morgan, 55, replied: “Hi Wayne, yes, @BillGates paid me $1 billion to big up the vaccines so that we could implant a chip inside you, control your brain, & turn you into a village idiot.

“And it's clearly working!”

The TV star has promised to take the vaccine live on air – and Matt Hancock has agreed to join him.

The health secretary appeared on Good Morning Britain when news broke that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine had been approved for roll out in the UK.

Host Morgan said: “I would take it live on air. I don’t care, I just feel like it’s really important if we are going to get through this that enough people take it.”
