Bake Off's Nadiya Hussain: I'm never not stopped and searched travelling to US

TV cook Nadiya Hussain has revealed she has never travelled to America without being stopped and searched by airport security.

The Great British Bake Off star - who won the show in 2015 - is a British-born Muslim and wears a hijab to cover her hair.

Hussain, 35, told Metro.co.uk: "I've always been nervous about travelling to America because there isn't one time that I've been to America and I haven't been stopped in searches.

"That's always happened and I always expect it. They always say it's completely random – and it may very well be, but I'm always stopped and searched."

The Bake Off winner visited Louisiana and California in the US to film her new BBC food showNadiya's American Adventure.

She said any nervousness she had about travelling to America is , "always confirmed on the way there and then on the way back."

Hussain added: "That almost heightens my anxiety to travel to America."

But the chef revealed when was actually working in the country, nothing happened to make her nervous or concerned.

Hussain recently told the Radio Times she was scared to call out racism in the TV industry and she didn't want to be accused of complaining.

She said speaking out is hard, "because if I ever feel like I'm complaining about anything, I have this god-awful fear that nobody will want to work with me ever again. So I'm really scared.

"The times that I have called it out, I've met with some serious negativity."
