EastEnders star Maisie Smith has addressed rumours of a romance with her Strictly Come Dancing rival HRVY.

The pair have been a hit with viewers and judges on this year's series of the popular show, and though Smith has described HRVY as “beautiful”, they are just “friends” at the moment.

Speaking to The Sun, the 19-year-old was asked if she and the CBBC star were dating.

She replied: “Not right now. He is a beautiful-looking guy, but I have only seen him for a couple of hours a week so I am still enjoying getting to know him.

“I don’t know what would happen in the future, but for now we are getting along really well as friends.”

HRVY has also addressed the speculation, adding fuel to the rumours by admitting he is “a little excited to see how things blossom”.

Writing in his OK! column he said: “I've actually seen her the least out of everyone because she's not been in any of my rehearsal spaces. But yeah, Maisie really is so lovely and beautiful.

“She's a really good friend of mine and I think she's an amazing dancer. Not a lot can really happen between us because we have to be two metres apart, but I am a little excited to see how things blossom.”

The pair’s friendly rivalry and rumoured relationship was hinted at by Zoe Ball last week on Strictly sister show It Takes Two as she interviewed HRVY.

Ball asked: "Maisie has been your closest rival so far, the two of you are neck and neck. There's a fine line between love and hate, nudge nudge, wink wink, any clues...? Is that a nice friendly rivalry between the two of you?"

Refusing to be drawn in, he responded “She is great, she's genuinely very talented. I think because we are similar ages there's like a little rivalry, but she keeps me on my toes.

"To be fair, everyone is doing so well so everyone is keeping each other on their toes."

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday (7 November) on BBC One.
