On Twitter, Smith posted: "Thanks for the birthday love #22."

Fellow Corrie star Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, responded: "Aw many happy returns lovely."

Discussing his huge weight loss during an appearance on Good Morning Britain in June, he revealed part of the reasoning for losing weight was due to his Corrie storyline which sees character Craig becoming a police officer.

He said: "When I prepared for this storyline, I said to myself I'll make it as easy as I can for myself, so I sat down with Rob Brennan who's a life coach, and we worked through everything I could do to make it as easy as possible.
