Melanie Sykes on finding love: 'Most men are pretty basic and disappointing'

Melanie Sykes is open to finding love with a new man but reckons many potential suitors are "basic and disappointing".

The mother-of-two thinks British men use language too similar to that of Leigh Francis' crude Keith Lemon character when talking to women, which puts her off dating them.

Writing in The Frank Magazine - of which she is editor in chief - to mark her 50th birthday Sykes said: "I would love to find a good man to share my life with romantically. Sadly in all realms of life, most, not all, but most men are pretty basic and disappointing.

"I feel a bit sorry for British men who have adopted the limited vocabulary of the television character, Keith Lemon, when talking about, and to women."

The twice-married presenter was wed to her first husband Daniel Caltagirone from 2001 to 2009 and he is the father of her two sons Roman, 18, and Valentino, 16.

She filed for divorce from second husband Jack Cockings, whom she wed in May 2013, after less than a year of marriage.

Prior to their break-up, Sykes was arrested and cautioned for assaulting Cockings at their London home in 2013.

Last year it was reported that Sykes was dating comedian Steve Coogan with the relationship coming to an end in 2019.

In her magazine piece, Sykes remarked that she "loves to be in love" but that it "hasn't happened for a long time".
