The Darkness rocker Justin Hawkins has told how his shorts melted onto his legs after a freak chemical accident.

The singer had to go to hospital after injuring himself while trying to fix his swimming pool, reported The Sun.

Hawkins was apparently doing something with the pump when "chemicals came out of it" and ended up on his legs.

"There was a problem with the pool, a pump thing and some chemicals came out of it," he was quoted as saying.

"I think it was a PH negative chemical to control the acidity of the pool.

"I was trying to fix it and I touched my legs and my shorts melted onto my legs, so then I had to go to hospital."

The star apparently shared his scary story on the Cameo site, but the post is no longer available.

Hawkins was born in Surrey but currently lives in Switzerland, which is where he is thought to have been when he had the accident.

The singer is best known for being the frontman of The Darkness, who have had hits such as I Believe In A Thing Called Love, Growing On Me and One Way Ticket.

He was also the lead singer and guitarist for the band Hot Leg.

Earlier this year, Hawkins was a contestant on hit UK show The Masked Singer, performing as Chameleon.
