Scarlett Moffatt: I gained weight on purpose after fitness DVD

Scarlett Moffatt has confessed she deliberately put on weight as a rebellion against the public reaction to her fitness DVD.

The 29-year-old Gogglebox star – who has previously spoken about the hurt of receiving hate mail regarding her weight – slimmed from a size 18 to a size 8 in 2016 in conjunction with the release of her SuperSlim MePlan video.

Moffatt told Frankie Bridge's Open Mind podcast: "I sort of rebelled against the DVD because I just didn't like how it happened and I just wasn't for it any more.

"I purposefully started putting weight on. I was sort of like, 'If I get big again it can't get brought up. I can't have this stigma attached to me about this DVD, and people will stop buying it because they'll see I'm big again.'"

The DVD was thrown into controversy amid claims that the TV presenter – who won I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2016 – had attended an exercise boot camp and dramatically cut her daily calorie intake.

But Moffatt hit back, insisting she had lost weight through the exercise plan.

She revealed she had signed the DVD contract "without representation" and felt it would be "stupid to say no", as the fee on offer would pay off her parents' mortgage and her get on the property ladder herself.

Moffatt said: "The way that I got through that was I kept thinking, 'Well, I suppose if people look at me and think well I can get fit' – and it is good for your head, I think exercise really does help.

"I kept thinking, 'Well, I'm helping people who maybe felt like me and were embarrassed to go to the gym or felt self-conscious to go to the gym, so they can do some exercises in the gym.'"

The reality TV star revealed she has since deleted all her "Before and After" photos as they were having a negative impact on her mental health.

"In a way I was sort of my own worst enemy during that situation," she said.

"It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you don't make them again. Which I definitely won't."

Moffatt added: "Now that I've gotten older I've started to realise I can make people feel better about themselves rather than worse, really. It was a learning curve."
