Linda Lusardi has shared the first photo of herself at home after leaving hospital last week following a frightening near-death battle with the coronavirus.

The former model and her husband Sam Kane were both hospitalised after contracting Covid-19 and he told of the scary experience which saw her "at death's door" as the virus was at its peak.

Luckily the 61-year-old managed to fight it off, and Kane announced on Facebook she was at home and on the mend last weekend.

And now she has taken to social media herself to post a photo of her enjoying cuddles with family pooch Dexter and looking like she is truly over the worse.

She captioned the photo: "So good to be home. Keep safe. Stay in and try to keep positive in this troubled time."

The mum-of-two had also kept fans up to date with her progress via daytime ITV show This Morning after she messaged host Eamonn Holmes.

He said while on air: "It's fascinating who gets in touch with you just while we sit here.

"Here's a lovely message from someone who suffered, her and her husband, with Covid-19. Hospitalised because of it and that is Linda Lusardi.

"She says, 'just enjoying watching you from my bed this morning Eamonn. So good to be home, love to you both' and she just talks about when she was in hospital."

Hubby Kane previously told of his joy she was home and heaped praised on "miracle worker" NHS staff.

The former Brookside star wrote on social media: Kane wrote: "It's with absolute joy that I can tell you my girl is finally at home. She's on the sofa with a nice cup of tea and Dexter on her lap. She's doing great.

"She's battled through this hell and with God's grace has thankfully come out other side."

He added: "The miracle workers at the hospital have been just incredible.

"Words will never do justice for how we feel and our gratitude to them. It's thanks to them that we now have our family back together."

Lusardi and Kane married in 1998, and have two children.
