Louis Tomlinson criticises Dan Walker for 'grief' questioning as he vows to never return to 'BBC Breakfast'

Louis Tomlinson has criticised BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker for asking him "about his grief" during an interview about the star’s new album, and declared he would never go on the show again.

The former One Direction member, whose mother Johannah died of leukaemia in 2016 and sister Félicité died of an accidental overdose last year, claimed Walker had "continued" to probe him on the subject.

After the show he tweeted: "Defo wont be going on there again Haha! Love to all my fans for always having my back.”

Walker, 42, replied: "Sorry you feel like that. It was nice to speak to you on #BBCBreakfast this morning. Can I ask what you are upset about?"

"I was upset that you continued to ask me about my grief," Tomlinson, 28, said. "It goes without saying how hard it is to lose both people so close to me. The least I ask is that you respect my decision of not wanting to be asked in interviews about something so painfull (sic)."

He continued: "I'm lucky enough to have a creative outlet for me to talk about grief this doesn't however give you the right to talk about it for gossip purposes."

During the interview, reflecting on the songwriting process, Walker had asked Tomlinson: "Do you feel that at some stage 'oh I've put too much of myself in there' or is that part of helping you in writing that way as well about the loss of your mum and your sister and other things?"

Tomlinson said that due to his beginnings on The X Factor he always “given a lot” of himself and that he had used it to his “advantage”.

Walker said on Twitter: "Hi Louis. We were asking you about the song on your new album about your mum. We know it’s painful which is why we didn’t dwell on it. No intention to upset you or be ‘gossipy’ about it at all. That’s not our style on #BBCBreakfast."

Later in the BBC interview, Tomlinson told the hosts they were "going in" on him after Minchin asked about his feud with former bandmate Zayn Malik.

"You're proper going in here today," Tomlinson remarked before Walker replied: "Louis, you know people will be interested."

Tomlinson retorted: "Yeah but people pick up on every little thing I say, I'm just not ready to have that conversation and that's fair enough."

The father-of-one and Malik have shared a difficult relationship, with Tomlinson publicly declaring his annoyance when the Pillowtalk singer didn't show up to a performance by Tomlinson on The X Factor that took place days after his mother's death.

On the BBC show, Walker also asked Tomlinson about the potential of One Direction getting back together, to which the singer responded: "Trauma, Zayn, and now we're finally on this [topic]."

Tomlinson went on to tweet after his exchange with Walker: “Anyway f*** the negativity now. It's been a siiiiick week.”
