Pussycat Dolls reunion sparks flurry of complaints over raunchy costumes

X Factor: Celebrity's Pussycat Dolls comeback performance certainly grabbed viewers' attention - but many thought it was for the wrong reasons as Ofcom received a flurry of complaints about the raunchy show.

The US girl group went their separate ways in 2010, but with lead singer Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on the ITV singing contest, the grand final weekend was the perfect time for them to make a return to the stage.

Scherzy and co performed a steamy routine to a megamix of their hit singles including Don't Cha and Buttons, but many viewers were appalled by the barely-there costumes and daring dance moves.

Media regulating body Ofcom confirmed that they had received a total of 419 complaints by people who thought the costumes and routine went too far.

The group, which also includes Ashley Roberts, Kimberley Wyatt, Carmit Bachar and Jessica Sutta, were clad in tiny pants and body suits that looked to be made of sheer tights material as they performed a series of splits on the X Factor stage.

Viewers tweeted that they found the Pussycat Dolls' performance inappropriate, especially for any children who were watching.

But other viewers argued that the group had done nothing wrong.

However, there was joy for former Towie star Megan McKenna, who was crowned the winner of the series.

She had long been the favourite to walk away with the top prize and beat The Chase star Jenny Ryan, duo Max and Harvey, and social media influencers V5 in the final.

The show also saw an emotional Simon Cowell reduced to tears by the video for The X Factor's charity single, a cover of Snow Patrol's Run sung by all 13 of the celebrity acts.

His girlfriend Lauren Silverman had to run up to the judging panel to comfort him as he sobbed over the video.
