Mel B has said she wakes up from nightmares believing ‘abusive’ ex-husband Stephen Belafonte has cut off one of her fingers.

Scary Spice split from her husband in 2016, claiming he had been abusive throughout their relationship.

Mel said: “I came running down the stairs because I thought my ex had cut my finger off.

“I thought it had actually happened because he was threatening to do that. I was convinced my finger was gone and my mum had to reassure me it was still there. I have to remind myself that I’m living in the present and that the flashback is my brain playing tricks on me.

“I’ve got a long way to go. It’s baby steps. Everyone thinks it’s fine when you leave but that’s when the next battle really begins.”

The couple looked to be living an idyllic LA lifestyle after meeting and marrying in secret in 2007. They had a daughter named Madison in 2011. However, the couple separated late in 2016, with Mel filing for divorce a few months later accusing Belafonte of "emotional and physical abuse".
