Kate Garraway red-faced as she realises she is dressed like Austin Powers on 'GMB'

Kate Garraway was left red-faced when she discovered she was dressed like Austin Powers on Good Morning Britain.

The presenter, 52, donned a bright red jacket with a ruffled white blouse for Friday’s instalment of the ITV programme, and evidently had no idea that she looked just like the movie character played by actor Mike Myers.

She was mortified when her co-host Ben Shephard told her that her outfit had triggered a flurry of posts on Twitter from fans wondering why she was in fancy dress.

Show bosses then put an image of Garraway next to one of Myers in character as the International Man of Mystery.

“It literally is Austin Powers!” she squealed.

Rather than take all of the blame herself, Garraway insisted her outfit had something to do with the wardrobe department.

“Did they watch it last night on the movie channel and think ‘I know what I'll put Kate in tomorrow morning?’” she asked.

She went on: “Every day I think I’m not going to be the idiot of this show. I’m going to be the one who’s a proper grown up journalist.”

However, Garraway need not have been embarrassed, as many viewers said the wardrobe blunder made their day.

The fact that she had a ride on a bike in one segment added to the amusement.

“@kategarraway you crack me up,” one viewer posted on Twitter.

Another person admitted they were “actually crying with laughter”.

“Thank you,” the viewer tweeted. “A great start to the day. Kate as Austin Powers riding a bike in 6 inch heels. Love it!”

“Funniest start of show ever.....@kategarraway dressed as Austin Powers on a bike....this has made my Friday morning!” said another.
