Mark Ronson reveals he's a sapiosexual: Here's what that means

Mark Ronson has revealed he identifies as sapiosexual, which means he is attracted to intelligence over gender.

The music producer was appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss his new album Late Night Feelings, but found himself embroiled in a discussion about the topic in the studio earlier that morning.

Following a debate about French minister Marlene Schiappa, who has also described herself as a sapiosexual, presenter Kate Garraway commented that Ronson had got very involved in a dressing room debate behind the scenes about the sexuality before the programme went on air.

Garraway asked him: "Now we know you are single... You are identifying as a man who likes intellect?"

Ronson replied: "Yeah, I didn't know that there was a word for it.

"We were all arguing backstage in the dressing room with a couple of your producers. And yes I feel like I am identifying as sapiosexual."

Co-presenter Ben Shephard also joined in the discussion: "So you are coming out as sapiosexual. Out and proud on Good Morning Britain.

Earlier in the show, author Nichi Hodgson had been on the show to explain what sapiosexuality meant.

"The definition means intelligence first then attraction," she said. "I date men and women and identify as bisexual, and I realised the thing that linked all people that I have dated has been their brains."

She added: "We know a certain percentage of the population is sapiosexual. It's always existed, we just didn't have a word for it."

Defined by the Dictionary.com as "a person who finds intelligence to be a sexually attractive quality in others", sapiosexuals are people who value a "meeting of minds" more than physical attraction.

Ronson has previously been married to a woman, French actor and singer Joséphine de La Baume.

The couple married in 2011, but in May 2017 it was reported that de La Baume had filed for divorce from Ronson.

Just yesterday it was revealed that the definition of the word 'they' as a nonbinary pronoun has been incorporated into the dictionary.

Dictionary publishers, Merriam-Webster, made the announcement that they had incorporated the use of 'they' as a nonbinary pronoun to its list of definitions on their website and Twitter.

"They," the dictionary now notes, can be "used to refer to a single person whose gender identity is nonbinary."
