Sunburn, snaky suitors and unexpected visits from presenter Caroline Flack are just some of the things that Love Island contestants have grown to fear since the show was revived in 2015. Turns out, they should start worrying about unwelcome spirits too...

“We had some weird stuff happen in the villa while I was there,” dumped Islander Joanna Chimonides told the Daily Star. “We think the place is haunted.

“One time Jourdan was convinced she had seen a ghost,” she explained. "She said she had been woken up suddenly and there was this blonde woman bent over her bed and rocking back and forwards.

“She said it looked like Belle [Hassan] but of course it wasn't her. It freaked us out."

The mysterious figure hasn’t been the only thing creeping out this year’s Islanders either, Chimonides claimed.

“The crawlies and creatures that come into that villa are like aliens,” the 22-year-old joked. “I have never seen some of them before.

“We have got insects the size of birds flying around us. The wildlife is insane.”

Having been booted out of the villa by her fellow Islanders on Monday night, Chimonides has been tuning in to the dating show every night as she gears up to guest on spin-off Love Island: Aftersun on Sunday 21 July.

As the results of the latest recoupling looms large ahead of tonight’s episode, fans have taken to Twitter to wonder whether Michael Griffiths - the firefighter she was previously coupled-up with - will be the one forced to leave.

If he is, it would mean that they’d both appear on the chat show together this weekend. Viewers have said they’d be keen to see their reunion after Griffiths’ backtracked on his feelings for the recruitment consultant to former flame Amber Gill earlier in the week.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
