'Love Island': What rule did Sherif Lanre break to get axed from the show?

Love Island contestant Sherif Lanre has been evicted from the show for breaking the rules.

Sherif added: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

The 20-year-old chef and semi-professional rugby player said on levaing the villa: “I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

“I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”

But what are the Love Island rules and which one did he break?

Here are the things a contestant might have done to get disqualified from the show.

Masturbated

There is a ban on masturbation within the villa.

Read a book

Islanders are not allowed to pack books or magazines in their luggage.

Stripped naked

Love Island operates a strict no nudity policy. Although contestants may have sex with one another they may not be fully naked in front of each other - even in the shower. This is because the villa is technically a public place.

Lit up a cigarette indoors

After a large number of complaints about the constant smoking on the show in 2017, a smoking ban was introduced inside the villa. Contestants who want to have a fag must go outside to the designated smoking area - and there can only be one person in the smoking area at a time. This is to discourage social smoking.

Got drunk

Islanders are allowed to consume alcohol but they are not supposed to get intoxicated on screen. On big nights, such as an eviction night, they are given a maximum of two drinks - wine or beer, no spirits.

Smuggled a mobile phone in

Even though the Islanders are always texting each other, they are provided with very basic phones by the producers for this purpose. Having their own smartphone in the villa and attempting to contact the outside world or view the internet is against the rules.

Used inappropriate language or behaviour

The Love Island handbook states contestants must behave respectfully to one another at all times. Any breach of this rule could include racist slurs, homophobia, aggressive behaviour and physical violence.

Taken their mic off

Islanders are not permitted to talk to one another without their microphones turned on. If they do they will get a warning, but repeatedly breaking this rule will result in them getting the boot.

Been rude to the film crew

Islanders are expected to be as polite and respectful to the staff and crew as they are to one another. But obviously not overly familiar.

Not practised safe sex

Islanders are invited to be tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) before they join the show and provided with Love Island branded condoms in the villa.
