'Emmerdale' leaves viewers squealing with laughter with David Cameron pig joke

Emmerdale had keen-eared viewers in fits of giggles when it porked fun at former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron during an emotional scene in last night’s episode (6 June).

Many of the long-running soap’s characters gathered yesterday to attend the funeral of beloved matriarch Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox), who died from a terminal heart condition and last appeared onscreen on 24 May.

At the ceremony, Lisa’s nearest and dearest announced that they would hold a pig race in honour of her memory. One of the pigs was said to be called ‘David Hameron,’ allegedly alluding to the allegations made about the politician in the unauthorised biography, Call Me Dave.

“Kudos to whichever writer named one of those pigs David Hameron,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Alongside several ‘cry laughing’ emojis, another said: “You have got to be kidding me! #Emmerdale has just named one of the Dingle pigs after David Cameron!”

Other pigs were named Spamela Hamderson and Kevin Bacon.

While the swine’s title lightened the mood somewhat, the episode didn’t hold back from giving Lisa an emotional farewell. Later, it saw the likes of Sam and Cain Dingle read letters left for them by their stepmother.

"Debbie needs you, whatever she says," Lisa told Cain, in a voiceover performed by Cox. "You're her dad. Please, never give up on her – even if she keeps pushing you away, don't give up. It's family, it's love, they're the only things that matter really. Everything else is just a waste of time."

Addressing Debbie, she referred to her and her father’s fallout over Joe Tate and said: "You and your dad are just the same – stubborn. If I was there, I'd bang your heads together. Try and forgive him and make up, please?"

Elsewhere, she encouraged Sam to “figure out what makes him happy and hold onto it with both hands.”

Cox played Lisa Dingle from 1996 to 2019.
