Former Westlife singer Brian McFadden claims Britain needs a Donald Trump-like figure in charge and for the country to adopt a 'Britain First' attitude.

The 39-year-old made the comments on social media, saying Britain is 'literally fu***d', with Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Jeremy Corbyn currently at the forefront of UK politics. He also slammed Brits who "jump on the anti-Trump bandwagon."

The Irish-born singer tweeted on Sunday morning: "The fact that borris, farage and Jeremy are the frontrunners to be prime minister is scary! Britain is fu***d!!! Literally fu***d!

"Incredible how many brits jump on the anti trump bandwagon. He's exactly what Britain needs! A Britain first at all costs attitude is essential."

Fellow Irishman, Father Ted writer Graham Linehan took no prisoners with his severe response, which made reference to Mcfadden's Westlife career: "Oof, I thought you boys were done embarrassing Ireland."

Linehan later tweeted the singer responded to his comment by blocking him.

One Twitter user was confused about Mcfadden disliking Conservative Party member Boris Johnson, and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, but liking US President Donald Trump, saying: "I... I'm so confused. This is like two completely polar opposite tweets mashed together.

"How can you hate Boris and Farage, yet love Trump? They're basically evil triplets?!?!"

Another commented: "I'm starting to think you not joining the Westlife reunion wasn't your decision."

McFadden left Westlife in 2004 after a series of number one singles, saying he wanted to focus on his family and start a solo career.

At the time, McFadden was married to Kerry Katona and living with her and their two children.

The group carried on without him as a four piece until 2012. They reunited without McFadden in late 2018 and announced new music and European and Asian tours, the former of which started in Belfast last week.
