Lionel Richie brought to tears by blind contestant

Lionel Richie was reduced to tears on American Idol this week.

The music legend was overwhelmed during a performance by Shayy Winn, a 17 year-old high school student who recently lost her sight due to a brain tumour.

Winn's voice was effortless as she sang Andra Day's Rise Up.

Lionel started getting weepy practically the moment that Shayy, gripping her cane, let out her first elegant note. By the time she was done, he was a blubbering mess.
"You have wrecked me," he told Shayy, before rushing up to hug her.

"I've never seen Lionel cry this much," observed judge Katy Perry.
