Kerry Katona has slated Ant McPartlin for being able to carry on his career following his ban for drink-driving and his admission of drug addiction.

The 38-year-old star has struggled with substance abuse issues herself in the past, famously making an incoherent appearance on This Morning in 2008.

She blamed the incident at the time on the side effects of the medication for bi-polar disorder.

The mother-of-five told The Daily Mirror: “I’ve had to work my a*** off to save my career yet with Ant, eight months later he’s back winning awards as if nothing has happened.

“He was driving a car p***** up and could have killed a child and he had his issues with drink and drugs.

“When I was on This Morning 10 years ago slurring my words due to bipolar medication, I’m still today crawling my way back up that ladder again.”

McPartlin crashed his car drink-driving last year, and received a 20-month ban and a huge fine.

Following the incident, he went to rehab to deal with his issues with alcohol and prescription medication.

He said that he planned to take a year off work, but after 10 months returned to present the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent.

McPartlin, though he missed much of the year in recovery, still won the Best Presenter gong at the National Television Awards with his partner Declan Donnelly in January, their 17th consecutive win.

Katona said that while she was ‘proud’ of Ant for dealing with his problems, there’s a double standard at work between men and women in show business.

“Ant and people like Russell Brand and Robbie Williams, even the Rolling Stones, it’s all cool for them to be ex-drug addicts or have kids with different women,” she said.

The former Atomic Kitten singer is currently appearing on E4’s Celebs Go Dating.
